Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how the browser extension Metadata Explorer For Dataverse (“the Extension”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you install and use it in Chromium-based browsers (including Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge).
1. Summary
- The Extension helps you browse Microsoft Dataverse / Dynamics 365 / Power Apps metadata while you are signed in.
- We do not operate a backend server that collects your metadata or browsing history.
- Data stays in your browser (extension storage) or is requested directly from your Dynamics / Dataverse environment using your existing session.
- We do not sell personal data and do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the Extension.
2. Information the Extension accesses
Depending on how you use the Extension, it may access:
- Tab URL information for open
*.dynamics.comtabs, to detect your environment hostname (e.g.org.crm.dynamics.com). - Dataverse Web API metadata from your signed-in organization (tables, columns, relationships, forms, views, option sets, privileges, solutions, etc.) — only when you open the Metadata Explorer against that environment.
- On model-driven app pages (optional helpers): field logical names on forms, optional choice values, optional lookup hints, and optional record bar (table logical name and record id), using page context where available.
The Extension does not ask you for passwords. Authentication uses the browser session cookies for your Microsoft / Dynamics login when you are already signed in.
3. Information stored locally
The Extension may store the following in browser extension storage (chrome.storage.local):
- UI settings (e.g. show logical names, show option values, show record bar, lookup hints).
- Favorite and recent table selections (per environment hostname).
- A short-lived cache of table metadata summaries for faster reload (per environment).
- Last detected environment hostname (if saved from the popup).
- Optional impersonation target (system user id, Azure AD object id, display name) when you enable Act-on-Behalf for an environment — local only, cleared when you stop impersonation.
This data remains on your device under the browser’s extension storage for this Extension. It is not uploaded to our servers.
4. Network requests
When you use Browse Metadata (or related pages), the Extension may send HTTPS requests to:
- Your Dataverse / Dynamics organization API host (typically
https://*.api.crm*.dynamics.comor equivalent derived from your environment).
Those requests use your browser’s credentials for that host so the API can authorize you. The Extension does not send your Dynamics data to external third-party APIs for processing.
Optional outbound links (e.g. WhatsApp chat or WhatsApp Community) only occur when you click those links.
5. Permissions explained
- storage — save settings, favorites, recents, and metadata cache.
- tabs (limited use) — find open Dynamics tabs to detect environment URL when opening the browser.
- Host access to https://*.dynamics.com/* — call Dataverse Web API and run optional form helpers only on Dynamics domains.
6. Content scripts
On pages matching https://*.dynamics.com/*, the Extension may inject a small script to provide optional form productivity features
(logical name badges, record bar). You can disable these features in the Extension popup settings.
7. Children
The Extension is intended for professional / organizational use and is not directed at children under 13.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Local storage persists until you clear it, uninstall the Extension, or use in-product “Clear cache” (for metadata cache).
- Uninstalling the Extension removes its extension storage according to browser behavior.
- You can also clear site data / extension data via browser settings.
9. Third-party services
Microsoft Dynamics 365 / Dataverse / Power Apps are third-party services you connect to with your own account. Their privacy terms apply to data processed by Microsoft. This Extension only facilitates client-side metadata browsing with your session.
10. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Extension evolves. The “Effective date” at the top will change when material updates are made. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
